Laura Kennedy, Irish Time-columniste, promoveerde op #Spinoza

 

Laura Kennedy studeerde aan het Trinity College Dublin en promoveerde deze zomer op haar dissertatie: “Seeking Spinoza: The Spinozistic Origins of Early Psychological Theory in Wundt, James and Freud.”

Wekelijks schrijft zij een column in de Irish Time over wat filosofie voor het dagelijks leven kan betekenen; daarnaast heeft ze in het wekelijkse Magazine van de Irish Times een beauty column. Af en toe uit ze zich over haar op- en neergaande liefde voor Spinoza - schitterend, een genoegen om ze te lezen! 

• Vandaag, 12 sept. 2018 schreef Laura Kennedy: I have my PhD, but what is the value of a university education? So much of what we do at third level is inefficient and silly.

Four years ago in this newspaper, I wrote an article about falling in love with a man; a man who died in 1677. In March of this year, I wrote another piece about that man, the philosopher Baruch Spinoza. At that point, I was a month away from submitting my doctoral thesis in philosophy, which was heavily influenced by and including Spinoza, and I had fallen out of love with him.

Haar naam kwam al eens voor in een van mijn blogs, zo zag ik. In het blog van 21 febr. 2014 staat dat aan de Universiteit van Cork (UCC) de First Irish Early-Modern Philosophy Conference werd gehouden en daar zou op 22 febr. 2014 spreken:

De titel van haar dissertatie kon ik in haar columns nergens vinden, maar die trof ik aan in het cv van Andrea Sangiacomo op academia.edu

Een veelbelovende titel, maar haar thesis kon ik op internet (nog) niet vinden.
Enfin, zo heb ik een en ander bij elkaar kunnen sprokkelen over deze jonge doctor-columniste.
