ik het gedicht vond.
Owen McLeod teaches philosophy at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, where he lives., makes pottery, and writes poems, which are published or forthcoming in such journals as Field, Massachusetts Review, New England Review, Ploughshares, and The Southern Review.” [Zijn website en Books.google].

sound of his sister's laugh fills the cove.
Her children tumble from the sky like fruit,
vanish, rise from the churn, return to the dock
to do a cannonball, jackknife, or flying squirrel.
He sits in the shade, snaps pics with his phone,
a Pittsburgh Steelers sleeve hugging his beer.

is everywhere if anywhere, but right here
especially—or so he nearly believes, if only
in the moment before arguments rush in,
reminding him the world makes zero sense
if created and governed by a perfect being.

N.B. Aanvankelijk dacht ik dat het slechts een deel van het gedicht was: dat de laatste twee regels het begin vormden van een nieuwe strofe. Dat blijkt toch niet zo te zijn. Howard Spoelstra, die toegang had tot het hele artikel, liet mij met deze pagina zien dat het werkelijk om het hele gedicht ging:
