Vanavond om 19:05 uur zendt de Oostenrijkse radio Ö1.ORF een programma over uit over deze Franse filosoof, getiteld “Das Subjekt als Untertan.” Gisteren werd het op hun website voorbereid door een uitgebreid artikel door Nikolaus Halmer, waarin ook Althussers leunen op Spinoza aan de orde komt.

Jonathan Rée over #Spinoza's 'Ethics': What do you mean by 'God'?

Een week geleden bracht de London Review of Books Online exclusive een korte video, waarin filosoof Jonathan Rée “het verhaal in Spinoza's “knoestige werk van 17e-eeuws rationalisme, de Ethica, ontrafelt.”
Niet onaardig zoals in ruim 6 minuten de opzet van de Ethica wordt samengevat.

Studium over Johannes Hudde (1628 - 1704) en ondermeer #Spinoza

Anton Bossers wees mij erop (waarvoor dank) dat een paar dagen geleden Studium, Tijdschrift voor Wetenshaps- en Universiteitsgeschiedenis, met een Special uitkwam over Johannes Hudde (1628 - 1704). Het is het resultaat van een symposium over Johannes Hudde dat op 1 juni 2017 plaatsvond in de aula van de KB (cf.). De artikelen van dit Volume 11 - Issue 1 - 2018 zijn op gewina-studium.nl gratis te lezen of te downloaden.

 

Ik haal voor hier uiteraard het artikel naar voren van Wiep van Bunge over de brieven die Spinoza aan Hudde schreef over: waarom er maar één God is. Het is een informatief en actueel artikel, waarin Van Bunge laat zien hoe problemen die Hudde met Spinoza’s bewijsbenadering moet hebben gehad, eigenlijk in het Spinozisme nog steeds bestaan.

Signalement: Kristin Primus bracht haar hoofdstuk "Scientia Intuitiva in the Ethics" naar academia.edu - #Spinoza

Graag wijs ik op het volgende. Recent heeft Kristin Primus, assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at UC Berkeley [cf.], haar hoofdstuk

◾Abstract: Cognition of the third kind, or scientia intuitiva, is supposed to secure beatitudo, or virtue itself (E5p42). But what is scientia intuitiva, and how is it different from (and superior to) reason? In this chapter, I suggest a new answer to this old and vexing question at the core of Spinoza’s project in the Ethics. On my view, Spinoza’s scientia intuitiva resembles Descartes’s scientia more than has been appreciated. Although Spinoza’s God is not Descartes’s benevolent, transcendent God, Spinoza agrees with Descartes that the highest certainty requires that a cognizer correctly conceive of God and her causal relation to God; it is only with cognition of the third kind that a cognizer can be certain that her adequate (that is, clear and distinct) representations of extramental things agree with formally real, extramental ideata, and so are true. If this is right, a reading of Spinoza that has dominated scholarship since the Ethics’ publication is misguided: for Spinoza, it is not always the case that having (and recognizing that one has) a clear and distinct idea is sufficient for knowing that that idea is true. I end the chapter by suggesting why scientia is intuitive for Spinoza: Spinoza attempts to avoid Cartesian-Circle-style circularity by insisting that a cognizer must intuit the correct representation of God and God’s relation to things. Ze gaat o.a. ook in discussie met Sanem Soyarslan, met wie ze het op een aantal punten niet eens is. Overigens niet met haar dissertatie [cf. blog], maar met haar artikel “The Distinction between Reason and Intuitive Knowledge in Spinoza's Ethics,” [in: European Journal of Philosophy 24 (1) [2016], pp. 27-54], waarnaar Primus overigens nergens volledig verwijst; ze volstaat met “The Distinction” – en dan zoekt de lezer het maar uit [het is te  vinden op Sanem Soyarslan’s pagina op academia.edu].

Philipp Restetzki schreef: “Eine kleine Sonntagsmeditation auf Spinoza” - #Spinoza

Philipp Restetzki, over wie het vorige blog over zijn Goethe-Spinoza-studie ging, is méér dan alleen een scholar. Zo werd op 6 juni 2017 een CD uitgebracht, waarop de Görlitzer Rockband [semper] Mirandus de muziek verzorgde en Philipp Restetzki de tekst uitsprak van "Ausgewählte Gedichte von Wilhelm Busch als vertonte Musikstücke - Unerhört in beiderseitigem Sinne. Denn wer Busch kennt, weiß, dass das Chaos und der Humor häufig Hand in Hand gehen."

Philipp Restetzki studeerde Germanistik & Philosophie aan de Universität Tübingen; hij promoveerde vervolgens op zij dissertatie „Goethe und Spinoza“ aan de Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Hij woont in Görlitz en werkt momenteel in Weißwasser als Gymnasiallehrer voor Duits en Ethiek.

A.s. dinsdag spreekt hij voor de Goethe-Gesellschaft in Gotha in het Gymnasium Ernestinum (weer eens) over: “Der Philosoph, dem ich zumeist vertraue“ – over: “Goethes Verhältnis zum jüdischen Philosophen Baruch de Spinoza umfasst beinahe das gesamte Leben des Dichters.”

Der Vortrag zeigt anhand von ausgewählten Dokumenten Goethes Faszination für Spinoza. Danach soll anhand zweier Szenen aus „Faust“ dessen Einfluss auf Goethes literarisches Wirken nachgewiesen werden. [Cf. ]
